Online Notes (ON)

AUTOMATIC TRANSLATION OF LECTURES FROM SLOVENE TO OTHER LANGUAGES

The project Online Notes (ON) is focused on developing of a system for automatically translating lectures from Slovene to other languages. The development is being coordinated at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana, in close collaboration with the Centre for Language Resources and Technologies.

The results of the project will be important for a wide range of people: real-time translations will make it easier for foreign students to follow lectures in Slovene, automatic subtitles will help people will hearing loss, and lecture excerpts and recordings will be accessible at a dedicated website.

Test lectures

A total of 33 pilot lectures were delivered in 12 member institutions of the University of Ljubljana in 2021, 2022 and 2023 as part of the Online Notes project.

In the second half of 2021, five test lectures were carried out at four faculties (FRI, FF, FDV, FE).
In 2022, 12 test lectures were carried out at eight faculties (FSD, PF, BF, FDV, VF, FGG, FRI, FE).
In 2023, 16 testt lectures were carried out at nine faculties (FGG, PF, FKKT, BF, PEF, FF, FS, FMF, VF).
