TOOLS AND RESOURCES

An online concordancer is a program for searching in extensive online text collections – corpora.

Language Monitor

The Language Monitor shows the information on temporal trends of words and N-grams. The Language Monitor uses the data of the Gigafida 2.0 reference corpus of Modern Slovene for the period up to 2018, and the IJS NewsFeed service (from 2019 onwards). This ensures that the monitoring of texts is up-to-date. Using these two resources two corpora are made: a focus corpus containing texts from the period under analysis (e.g. 2020) and a larger corpus containing texts from the longer preceding period (e.g. 1991-2019).

Online concordancer for written language (CJVT)

The CJVT online condordarcer for searching Gigafida 2.0 is an upgraded version of the one developed during the project Communication in Slovene. Alongside some search updates, its main advantage is its cross-linking with other CJVT resources, such as the Slovene morphological lexicon, Thesaurus of Modern Slovene, and the Slovene Collocations Dictionary. It is meant for in-school use and an intuitive observation of modern Slovene.

Online concordancer for written language (SSJ)

A written corpus concordancer is a computer program which enables searching in large collections of texts (written corpora) on the web. The interface of this concordancer is simple: it was designed for a user-friendly experience, especially in schools. Through the interface, users can analyse and monitor how modern Slovene is used in reality, primarily in the two written corpora Gigafida and Kres.

Online concordancer for spoken language (SSJ)

A spoken corpus concordancer is a computer program which enables searching in large collections of spoken data (speech corpora) on the web. The interface is simple, it was designed to enable user-friendly experience, also in schools. Through the interface, users can analyse and monitor how modern Slovene is spoken in reality, primarily in the corpus Gos.

Online ortography guide

The main goal of the Online Ortography Guide is to show difficult spots in the Slovene written and spoken standard and to offer explanations and solutions to these problems in an interesting and easy-to-understand manner. Explanations are devised on the basis of data from different corpus collections, and as such they represent modern view on language and depict real, live Slovene as it is used here and now.

Pedagogical grammar portal

The Pedagogical grammar portal is a compilation of recurrent language problems organised into chapters. Each of the chapters focuses on a particular language problem. As a result, each chapter represents a single entity, thus eliminating the need to know other grammatical problems. A lot of effort was put into development of comprehensible explanations: terminology is limited to a minimum, more demanding terms are explained, the definition wording is very simple. This concept enables teachers to combine school lessons with the use of the portal at home.
